Beaumont ISD athletic director Ron Jackson wasn't thinking about basketball when he pulled into a local car service shop one September afternoon. The football season had just started in Southeast Texas. Volleyball was in the middle of district play. The height of basketball season was still months away. Yet as Jackson waited for his car to be cleaned, a fellow patron of the business recognized him for his role at Beaumont ISD. "He told me he was getting his car ready for San Antonio," Jackson recalled.
